No More Borders

Presidents and General Managers of Frankston & District Basketball Association, Mornington District Basketball Association, Western Port Basketball Association and Southern Peninsula Basketball Association, for the first time in the history of all clubs have pulled down the borders to collaboratively work together for the better of Basketball.

This working group had its first joint meeting to discuss the Pandemic and its challenges that we are all facing, from our financials, to the mental health of its members and how the game looks like when it returns back to the court. Frankston Basketball General Manager, Wayne Holdsworth said “that this collaborative approach that the Peninsula Basketball Associations have taken is a great initiative and exciting for basketball on the Peninsula.”

Sam Browne, General Manager of Mornington Basketball said “It is a great opportunity for all four Associations to work together to do basketball better on the Peninsula. In unity, great strength lies!”. While, it is not the first time the four associations have teamed up during this period, with the recent HomeCourt Challenge. It is the first time all associations have banded together to formulate a joint strategy.

These 4 clubs have members that surround the Frankston Region and the Mornington Peninsula Region, and we all believe the force of 4 is better than one. Western Port Basketball General Manager, Tyler Molloy said “By having this working group, hopefully we can see a united front and push to have Basketball as the sport of choice on the Peninsula”.
This group will work together fortnightly to gain a better understanding of what the game is going to look like, share what’s working for each club, work through the financial challenges and come up with some joint ventures for all of our members from Grassroots, Domestic, VJBL, Elite to our Senior Competitions.

Southern Peninsula General Manager, Ben White, emphasised that “while we are healthy competitors on the court, a unified response on the path out of this pandemic is key to getting back on court and helping deliver community health outcomes.”

We are all in this together is the approach taken by this working group of associations.
